What is augmented reality?
One big domain that is developing at quite a rapid pace today is the augmented reality. It is essentially, what you see through your eyes, your naked eyes to be specific. This is compounded with specific increased characteristics to help support enhanced vision and other capabilities. A huge step forward in this domain is augmented reality contact lenses. But wait, the invocation does not pause here. As a matter of fact, combining engineering with medical studies, we now have contact lenses to monitor your body. To be more specific, it is your glucose level. A question arises in many a person’s mind. Can microelectronics inside a contact lens help a diabetic person to control and monitor their blood sugar levels? This has now been answered satisfactorily. What is the technology used behind this?
Today, the technology being used here is quite ingenuous. The fact is that the blood sugar level is the same from a thumb prick and in that of the fluid of tears. Essentially, this can directly map the glucose level, and then transmit this data wirelessly to a portable device or instrument that the person with the special contact lenses can carry. Thus, this allows for managing diets more effectively and warning about potential health and also acting as an assistant for reminder about medications. This technique is not easy, but a Swiss prototype has been designed although it needs quite a lot of polishing and development for actual regular use.
What will our eyes look like in the future?
So, the next time if you happen to look into another person’s eye, do not get panicked and suffer the shock of your life. If the eye does not seem what it should like, consider the tiny curriculum circling and ringing around the iris as smart gadgets in position. And, think that the pupils of the eye quivering and shaking with tiny practically indiscernible light effects are not enhancing vision in any way. Rather, they are monitoring blood sugar levels and checking for glaucoma. This is what the future of the eye will probably look like.
