Presence of parallel universe or multiple universes is no longer limited to science fiction. Physicists have deduced the idea of ‘multiverse’ made possible through various laws of physics. The main problem lies in the fact that we don’t possess resources that can ever take us to the multiple universes. The main question lies in determining the existence of universes that cannot be encroached upon or seen.
The concept of another alternative universe that is identical to ours has been prevalent. The multiverse theories evoke curiosity and enjoy popularity. The concept of multiple universes has been adopted into various forms of fiction, like ‘The Man in the High Castle’ by Philip K. Dick and ‘Sliding Doors’.
THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES
Copernicus, in 16th century, has challenged the geocentric model and claimed that Earth isn’t the center of the Universe. Galileo’s telescope further cemented the view and gave a glimpse of the cosmos. At the very end of 16th century, Giordano Bruno, an Italian philosopher, stated his view that universe is infinite consisting of inhabited worlds.
By 18th century, everyone believed that the universe consisted of various other solar systems. The 20th century marked the propagation of the idea of multiple universes. Edmund Fournier d’Albe, an Irish physicist, suggested the presence of multiple universes at varying scales and sizes.
MULTIVERSE AND THE DIMENSION
Infinite number of universes exists that are present in the uncountable realms. These infinite realms lie next to each other in higher dimensions that cannot be perceived directly by our senses. Each of the alternate universes has their own version of the reality.
Royal Astronomical Society in the United Kingdom, has published a study on the subject of ‘cold spots’ that provides some evidence on the theory of multiple universes. Cold spots are said to be the cool patch of space that can be observed in the radiation produced by Universe’s formation that took place over 13 millions years ago.
In 2004, NASA’s WMAP spotted the first cold spot that was later confirmed in 2013 with Planck mission by ESA. Astronomers find it difficult to process this information into the prevalent inflation theory. The latest development explains cold spot as an illusion created by the absence of intervening galaxies.
THE CHALLENGING LAWS OF PHYSICS
The concept of multiverse poses as a treat to the existing laws of physics. It nullifies the big bang theory along with the inflationary model of physics. However, scientists don’t care about this and just want to find the truth about presence of multiple universes.
