With an annual growth of more than 95 million people, the population today is growing at an alarming rate. The major concern lies in the fact that more than 95% of this entire population growth happens in the developing or underdeveloped countries since those countries are not equipped with education, food or employment facilities.
Medical science has created achievement in prolonging life. But, this comes at a cost. The rate of birth has overcome the rate of deaths happening which has again contributed to a rapid rise in population. Even though poverty is the major cause for rise in population, it has also worked in the favor of decline in population growth. Every factor comes with a counter reaction. For example, in some cases, due to economic reasons, people tend to produce more and more kids, as they have nothing else to do. While in some other cases, people don’t procreate much as they can’t afford the feed the children.
World War II has tested the times and since then, no country could achieve the status of being a developed one without cutting down the population growth and decreasing the rate of births. Countries suffer owing to the fact that people tend to spend their money on maintaining lifestyle and food instead of investments.
- Family planning and use of contraceptive pills is a must for solving the problem of population growth. By effective family planning, one couple can produce one or two children and have a nuclear family. But owing to lack of education, people tend to be illiterate regarding the same. Government needs to take steps in creating awareness about the need for family planning.
- The mass media can be used as a tool for creating awareness about the problems related to population growth and the effects. Strict rules by Government regarding the same also help. For example, in China, Government imposes a fine of a large amount of money for producing second child. And hence, in China, people only have one child each.
- Contraceptive methods like condoms and pills should be used every time to control the rate of births. This would also prevent spreading of sexually transmitted diseases.
- Education and employment needs to be increased and made available to everyone. With proper education, people would already have knowledge about the sex education and would take proper steps to control population.
Population growth or decline is in our own hands. Everything depends on the treatment of the issue. Only with the decline in birth rates to a point where the death rates is more or equal to the birth rates, can the problem be truly solved.
