THE ROBOT BUTLER

What if robots could simply perform all the tasks for you? Having a robot butler is an idea that thinks of a future that is largely dependent on robotic help for performing household chores. The idea of having a robotic butler was first propagated in the cartoon series ‘The Jetsons’.

Instead of relying on just one basic machine to perform all the tasks, automated machines are performing all the tasks like smart appliances, automated vacuum cleaner, automatic dishwasher etc. The voice control is all that it takes. As a butler, Amazon’s Echo works fine. It can give suggestions on shopping, weather forecast etc.

CAREBOTS AND HERB

In this age of technology, more and more machines are being invented to assist in performing household tasks. Carebots, designed in Japan, are made to take care of the elderly and assist them in living.

HERB is Home Exploring Robot Butler that is being built in Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburg. It is designed to help the disabled elderlies to live independently. It can keep the books away after reading, load a dishwasher, sort the items as per requirements, grab stuff from the fridge, clear and set the table along with other functions. HERB is another step in the field of robotic technology that aims to ease the living.

ZENBO

If you have ever wondered how life would become when robots help with household chores, the answer lies with Asus. Asus is a laptop manufacturer who showed off its latest product at the Computex consumer electronics trade show held at Taipei. The latest product from Asus isn’t a mobile or a laptop, but it is a small personal robot.

The robot has been named as Zenbo. It is shaped like Apple’s iMac 2002. With an eleven minute long advertorial, Asus demonstrated the uses of Zenbo in a nuclear family. On Asus’s official website, the uses of Zenbo have been illustrated stating that Zenbo can communicate with humans, find recipes, act as a reminder, keep the children entertained along with controlling the smart devices in the house.

However, Zonbo can only tell the recipes and not cook them for you. It can alert you when someone gets hurt but cannot perform any action to help. It can assist you in buying things but won’t be able to choose them for you. At the cost of $599, Zenbo is not yet available for purchase.

The future of robots is very near.
