WHAT DO YOU UNDERSTAND BY POLAR SCIENCE?

Polar scientists collect data for observing and then answering any questions that arise regarding the North Polar Region (Arctic) or the South Polar Region (Antarctic). Arctic and Antarctic regions remain to be the most isolated and unique regions on Earth.

Polar scientists collect data for observing and then answering any questions that arise regarding the North Polar Region (Arctic) or the South Polar Region (Antarctic). Arctic and Antarctic regions remain to be the most isolated and unique regions on Earth. But their isolation does not mean that they do not play any role in another region. All the regions on planet Earth are related to each other.

By understanding and studying the Polar Regions, we can easily learn a lot more about the life science, physical science and the space science stuff. Scientists try to decode the mysteries of nature by observing the patterns in the natural world. Models are created for explaining, predicting and understanding the ever-changing environment. The observations made by understanding nature’s pattern help them in formulating a model.

THE POLAR SCIENCE JOURNAL

Reviewed by the peers, Polar Science is a scientific journal that gets released every quarterly. It basically covers up the research related topics which are based on the Polar Regions of Earth along with other planets. Not only this, but it also deals with other fields like environmental science, atmospheric science, glaciology, oceanography etc.

The National Institute of Polar Research in Japan gets it published every time by Elsevier. Takashi Yamanouchi is the editor-in-chief of the journal who looks after the proper coverage of topics.

Since the journal follows a hybrid open access, the authors can pay the fee and make their paper accessible openly while in publication stage. Science Direct is the source that makes the papers available to all others in the community. But the free papers on Science Direct are over two years old.

ACTIVITIES RELATED TO POLAR SCIENCE

Some of the activities related to the field of polar science include the exploration of Antarctic and Arctic, understanding the current patterns in both the oceans surrounding the Polar Regions i.e. Arctic Ocean and Antarctic Ocean, understanding how difficult it would be to live on the ice, navigating through the Polar region, finding the longitude when one gets lost etc amongst other such activities.

THE INTEREST

The interest in the world’s Polar Regions owes to the increase in their scientific value. They serve as the high-profile ground sites for scientific research work. Back in 1981, India had already launched the Annual Scientific Expeditions to Antarctica given the importance of scientific research there.
