Dermatology is the branch of Medical science which deals with skin and hair associated diseases. It is related to various diseases associated with skin such as skin infections, skin cancer and various hair and scalp related problems such as dandruff and other serious diseases. It is a specialty which involves both medical and surgical aspects.
It has derived its name from the Greek word “dermatos”. It was incorporated in English vocabulary in the year 1819. A dermatologist is the person who treats diseases related to Dermatology. Dermatology involves study, research, diagnosis and treatment of various normal and abnormal disorder related to skin and hair related problems. It includes cancers, cosmetic and ageing conditions of the skin, fat, hair, nails and oral and genital membranes.

A dermatologist must have a great depth of clinical knowledge encompassing the knowledge of basic science and other medical fields.
