In generality, spectrum can be defined as a range of any kind of thing. Therefore, in physics and chemistry, spectrum is defined as a range of waves (light, radio, sound or electromagnetic) within a particular frequency.

The electromagnetic waves (EM waves) are transverse in nature. The changes in the electric field or the magnetic field represent the wave disturbance in the EM waves. EM waves are the waves which have the ability to travel through the vacuum of the outer space. They are created due to the vibration of an electrical charge.

WHAT IS THE BAND OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM?

Electromagnetic spectrum is the range of light rays of multiple frequencies and wavelengths. Only light rays that fall between certain frequency and wavelength is visible to human eyes, rest are not. The ones that are not visible include low frequency waves, radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, gamma rays. These are also types of electromagnetic radiation.
